The Geelong Hospital is one of Victoria's major teaching hospitals and has a reputation for innovation in research and excellence in patient care. Medical, surgical and specialist services offered are among the most comprehensive of any hospital in the State.

The hospital is a 400 bed equivalent centre and during the past year, treated approximately 61,000 inpatients, performed approximately 15,000 operations and had about 42,000 emergency attendances. One of the hospital's key functions is its role as a teaching hospital of the University of Melbourne and from 2008 will host Deakin University medical students. The Geelong Hospital also maintains close links with other teaching hospitals, including St Vincent's and the Royal Children's Hospital.
