Acute Neurosciences Unit

The Acute Neurosciences Unit is a new stand-alone ward with state-of-the-art equipment to support best practice standards and smooth patient flow at University Hospital Geelong.

The ward will comprise 18 beds, including 16 general neurology beds, incorporating a stroke unit; and two beds for extended epilepsy monitoring and flexibility to accept rapid short stay admissions from the neurology outpatient clinic.

The Department of Neurology offers a large team of neurologists who are experienced across all areas of this specialty. The acute service works closely with the Progressive Neurology Clinic (Belmont); Inpatient Neurology Rehab (McKellar Centre) and Community Rehabilitation teams across Barwon Health. The Acute Neurosciences Unit will be on Heath Wing 2 centrally located at University Hospital Geelong, only minutes from the Geelong CBD and vibrant waterfront.

Bellerine Centre 6 North

Bellerine Centre 6 North (BC6N) is a 24 bed ward with a mix of Specialty Medicine and General Medicine beds. The ward provides a supportive environment that encourages professional growth and education in our specialist areas of renal, gastroenterology and chronic pain management.

The ward is centrally located at University Hospital Geelong and is only a short walk from our vibrant waterfront, botanical gardens, and cosmopolitan CBD with an array of festivities on offer.

Central Resource Unit

The Barwon Health Casual Nursing bank is managed by The Central Resource Unit (CRU) which provides 7 day support for our staff from 0600-2200 hours. CRU provides emergent and non-emergent nursing staff replacement for all bed based services. We provide staffing resources to meet every day operational needs of clinical units for nursing and support staff for bed based units across Barwon Health.
