Biostatistics Unit

Barwon Health Biostatistics Unit provides statistical support for research undertaken within Barwon Health.

We can offer help with:

  • Study design
  • Protocol development
  • Investigator initiated clinical trials
  • Analysis and modelling of data
  • Database development
  • Interpretation of results
  • Grant and funding support

A collaborative approach is taken with all projects and it is recommended that a statistician is consulted in the early stages of a research project to ensure the statistical integrity and validity of the study.

Consultations are free of charge to Barwon Health researchers, however funded projects that require ongoing statistical support should include the cost of statistical support as part of the project funding.

Statistics 'drop-in' sessions

The biostatistics unit runs statistics 'drop-in' sessions on the first and third Tuesdays of the month between 2 and 4pm. These sessions are currently held in Dr Stephen Lane’s office and are the ideal time to initiate the discussion surrounding your research proposal, discuss data collection requirements, get help with statistical software and associated output and to discuss any statistics components of college examinations.

The ‘drop-in’ sessions require no appointment, and will be dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis; as such, a more formal consultation may be suggested where needed.

For all enquiries or to arrange a consultation, please contact Dr Stephen Lane.
