The Barwon Health Foundation

Together with our community the Barwon Health Foundation invests in excellence in medical services, facilities, education and research to advance health and wellbeing for all.

The Barwon Health Foundation was established in 2002 to assist Barwon Health in achieving world-class health standards through fundraising and philanthropy.

The Foundation exists to create and nurture philanthropic partnerships between the community and Barwon Health. It is the vehicle through which individuals, community groups and organisations can contribute to Barwon Health's further development as a specialist provider of acute, rehabilitation, aged and community health care, providing the community with access to a comprehensive range of healthcare services. It is also a vehicle for providing a source of funds to advance the development of clinical research conducted by staff employed by Barwon Health.

The Foundation works to develop a donor base and to explore and implement contemporary concepts of fundraising. The Foundation's role in facilitating fundraising, will contribute to the provision of excellence in health care for the population in the Barwon and South-West regions of the state.

The activities of the Barwon Health Foundation are directed towards the following objectives:

  • To raise funds for the purchase of equipment and medical facilities
  • To help increase patient comfort and care
  • To fund medical research and scholarships undertaken by Barwon Health
  • To raise funds for vital capital campaigns

Barwon Health Foundation’s current campaign, Project North, is a $2.5 million appeal to support healthier futures for residents in the northern suburbs of Geelong.

The first goal is to relocate the current public dental service at Corio Community Health Centre to a new, bigger facility at Barwon Health North, Norlane.

Demand has been steadily increasing with population growth but infrastructure conditions prevent the needed expansion.

The move will make it possible for up to an additional 5,000 people to receive urgent and necessary dental care each year.

Co-locating the community dental service with urgent care, renal dialysis, imaging and a child and family health service at Barwon Health North allows for ease of referrals among services.

The public dental service is free for children under 12 and adults who hold a healthcare or pension card.

It’s hoped the new facility will help recruit and retain the brightest minds to care for the community in the North.
